xml-deprecated-res-groups-category-id (XML016)

A res.groups record sets category_id, removed in Odoo 19.0.

Applies to Odoo 19.0 and later.

What it does

Reports <field name="category_id"> in res.groups records of modules for Odoo 19.0 and later.

Why is this bad?

Odoo 19.0 removed the field: installing fails with ValueError: Invalid field 'category_id' on model 'res.groups'. Groups shown in the user form now use privilege_id, a res.groups.privilege record. See odoo/odoo#199988.

Fix safety

Unsafe: the field is removed, as Odoo did for its own technical groups. Set privilege_id instead when the group should appear in the user form.
